What to do with a Bowl of Figs?

I was recently given a bowl of figs that my parents had grown in their backyard.  I don't normally eat figs, in fact I could hardly remember how they tasted, and wondered what I could do with such a large quantity.  I referred to Margaret Fulton's 'Encyclopedia of Food & Cookery' for some ideas.  (I don't know if Margaret Fulton is known outside of Australia but she is kind of Australia's equivalent of Julia Child).

Below are the dishes we tried with great success.  If you know of anything else I could try, please leave me a comment.

Baked Figs
Arrange 6 whole figs in an oven proof dish.  Pour in 1/4 cup water and sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar.  Bake in a moderate oven for 20 minutes.   Serve with a dollop of ice-cream.

Prosciutto and Figs
Halve figs and arrange paper thin slices of prosciutto around them.  The combination of salty and sweet is a delicious.

I absolutely LOVE figs. Unfortunately here in WI we do not get them. So enjoy a few for me.

Oh how lovely. It's so hard to get hold of fresh figs here. I once saw a dessert substitute idea in a cookery book that I've always wanted to try at a dinner party, but have never had the figs. It was a bit like your figs and proscuttio except it was fresh figs, whole almonds and goats cheese - yum! You could always try fig jam if you really run out of ideas or dry them.

I'm afraid the only thing I've ever done with figs is made fig jam!
